DONALD Trump insisted he was “saved by God to make America great again” after being sworn in as the 47th President of the United States.

Jubilant Trump declared “the golden age of America begins right now” after staging one of the greatest political comebacks ever.

In a historic inauguration ceremony, political elites, celebrities and influential billionaires packed into the Capitol Rotunda room.

It is the first time in decades the ceremony has been held indoors as freezing temperatures grip Washington DC.

Applause rang out as Trump was sworn into office for his second term by Chief Justice John Roberts.

Trump said: “From this day forward, our country will flourish and be respected. I will very simply put America first.”

Trump said people tried to take his “freedom” and his “life” as he referenced an assassination attempt last July.

He added: “Just a few months ago, in a beautiful Pennsylvania field, an assassin’s bullet ripped through my ear.

“But I felt then and believe, even more so now, that my life was saved for a reason. I was saved by God to make America great again.”

Appearing to put their differences aside for today, Trump and outgoing leader Joe Biden were pictured sharing a limo to the ceremony.

Biden planned to leave Trump a letter in the Oval Office – just as the incoming president did for him for him four years ago.

Trump stunned the world as he beat Kamala Harris to retake the White House.

The campaign saw him survive two assassination attempts and repeatedly weather legal storms, many of which Don raged were politically motivated.
